I’ve started a new category - things that bloggers shouldn’t do. Here’s the first one..
I recently was on a forum that was accessed mostly by newbies and a few experienced IM’ers. One of the more experienced IM’ers wrote a post telling people that they should always remember to keep resubmitting their sites or blogs over and over again to search engines, and if they didn’t they would lose page rank and fast. The poster quoted a personal experience stating that when they stopped resubmitting to the search engines they lost PR from something like 3 to more than 13 in the space of weeks and then when they started again, their PR shot back up to 3.
Whilst the poster did say that this was only one of the factors, it was clear from the example of going from PR3 to 13+ in the space of weeks because they did not submit to search engines, was the main cause.
What a load of doo dah!
Life as a blogger would be a lot easier if this was the case, although I can imagine the search engines going crazy with these repeat submissions over and over. I can’t imagine ANY search engine putting up with this for too long. If I worked at a search engine and I saw your site/blog come in over and over again, you’d be black banned quick smart. Could this be called submissionSPAM?
People, listen to what the experts say, resubmission to search engines has nothing to do with page rank especially if you have made no changes to your site/blog. Once your site has been submitted to a search engine then it’s kept in their database and they will re-index your site regularly with their search engine crawlers and bots. In fact, there is a school of thought that believes your site can actually be penalised if you continue to resubmit your site to search engines over and over. Don’t risk it and save yourself some time and effort (and money if you were considering using a paid service) - and spend your time on SEO and writing great content. Of course, if you haven’t already done so, then submitting your site to a list of search engines is recommended, but once submitted, there is no need to do it again.
For bloggers, you should have set up a bunch of pings in our Update Services under your Wordpress Options. Every time you write a new post, your blog will ping the major update services.
Also, stay clear from either services that offer bulk submission to search engines for a cheap price or purchasing this kind of bulk submission software to do it yourself. Most search engines recognize this automated software and so can ignore web site submissions, or worse, ban future submissions from your site. Another big disadvantage with search engine submission software is that you don’t have control over your site descriptions and thus you cannot optimize each submission for each search engine.
Side-note: It was interesting that the poster of the above comment offered a search engine submission service. Ulterior motive alert!

PR13? What exactly is this person referring to. I always enjoy when people use terms interchangably. Are they talking about a SERP of 13 for a particular term? I think a reference to PR13 alone shows this person’s knowledge on the topic…
